3 pm: Fingerpicking Workshop by Steve

Are you tired of playing the same old chords and patterns on your ukulele? Come to Steve McKinnon’s finger picking workshop and unlock a whole new world of musical possibilities! We’ll start with a close encounter of the 5 tone code, followed by a brief discussion of Curwen and Solfege. Then we’ll dive into Do-Re-Me and learn how to create melodies and read tabs while perfecting our finger discipline for both hands. With a helpful handout, we’ll learn how to play chords and then move onto playing “Wont Back Down” by hearing the notes on the single A string. Don’t worry about getting overwhelmed – we’ll convert those walk-down notes to inversions using a color chart. We’ll also provide a handy circle of 5ths handout to help you master basic key changes with either “Louie Louie” or “Mary Had a Little Lamb”. We’ll start by playing “Don’t Walk Down” and vocalizing sounds with inversions, then move onto the second part where we’ll do normal Em, D, G. Finally, we’ll end the workshop with “La Bamba” music, where nothing needs to be translated – just let the rhythm move your fingers and see where it takes you! Steve is also available for private lessons. You can contact him at mckennons521@gmail.com

Cost: $5
